Anyone else find it a bit too coincidental that this came out just before covid got big and lockdown happened?

This review asks “who asked for this? Who is it for?” especially when Facebook is so big and it’s such a niche product

Boom, lockdown. This product is perfect for those family members apart due to lockdown. I see you Zukk, you knew something

My Mums 92 and cant even remember how to use her i pad or her smart phone, she lives in sheltered accommodation 90 miles from where I live. I'm not allowed into her premises and she's not allowed out as things stand, I'm not even sure if I will ever see her again.
All I want to know is: Can this be left permanently plugged in, (she will forget to re-charge it) so all she has to do is when I call her, is she walks up to it and presses the icon to connect? Not interested in any other features as they will be lost on her. Thanks

    Who actually needs this?

Well, my 87 years old grandma does.
She lives in Europe, I live in North America and my father lives near Australia.
She cannot use computers, phones or tablets.
She can only see my father and I when we visit, once every few years.
Phone calling is all right but seeing each other is often better.

She needs an "interaction free device", something as simple as a landline phone that doesn't need to be charged everyday, configured, installed. A device that doesn't show dozens of apps or displays error messages from time to time or that suddenly won't start after an update, etc…

We made technology complicated, it's ok when you're born with it but for older people, it is very challenging.

Note: I have no idea if portal fits her needs, I'm watching this video precisely to determine that.

P.S.: doing the portal initial setup wouldn't be an issue as we have family leaving closer to her, they can take care of installing the device and maybe, occasionally have a look at it is it's not behaving as it should.
