Vegas Golden Knights forward Ryan Reaves was ejected during Game Seven for a terrible hit he delivered to Canucks forward Tyler Motte.

Reaves hit Motte in the head with his shoulder and back, knocking the 25-year-old center briefly out of the game.

And it appears likely he will get supplemental discipline from the league.

During the game, officials gave Reaves a five-minute major for an illegal check to the head and a game misconduct.

This was the reaction from the Golden Knights bench.

Reaves broke his stick as he walked down the tunnel.

Saturday morning, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that they would be having a hearing with Reaves, meaning a suspension in the Conference Final is likely coming.

This is the second bad hit (at least) Reaves has delivered during the 2020 postseason. He also nailed Nick Schmaltz in the head during the first round.

Just in from DoPS: the Vegas Golden Knights will be without Ryan Reaves for one game. Following his hearing with the NHL department of player safety on Saturday, the Knights forward will miss Game 1 his team’s conference final series with the Dallas Stars.

From the NHL:

The department makes it clear that Reaves made the head the main point of contact despite it being avoidable. “While we accept Reaves’ argument that he does not intend to hit Tyler Motte in the head,” the league says and then describes how Reaves did nothing to avoid exactly that happening.

Reaves, 33, has been an off-ice leader, but has just four points in 15 postseason games.
