Only the fantasy “other” seems perfect. You know you had a bad experience of this as a child and you’ve worked to ‘overcome’ that experience- put it in perspective. Warren Stevens plays Lt. ‘Doc’ Ostrow great with proper emotion too!

The gorgeous Anne Francis plays Altaira Morbius fine but due to her character’s isolation, her lack of emotion is understandable (not unlike the character Weena in The Time Machine – 1960). But, in my opinion, other than Robby, Walter Pidgeon ABSOLUTELY steals the screen with his performance as the cult icon Dr. Edward Morbius! His script, clothes, appearance, presence and voice are all better than the rest of the cast. At 59, he’s the oldest cast member here. He’s another reason for the film’s success.
