Capitals salute Washington Football Team’s Antonio Gibson after he scores a ‘hat trick’ of touchdowns against Cowboys

For those of you who like hockey in your football, you’ll love this.

After the Washington Football Team defeated the Dallas Cowboys 41-13 on Thanksgiving Day, the Washington Capitals gave a shout out to rookie running back Antonio Gibson. The 2020 third-round pick had his biggest day as a pro, recording 115 rushing yards on 20 attempts.

But it was his three touchdowns that caught the attention of the Capitals.

“HAT TRICK FOR @AntonioGibson14,” wrote the WFT. The Capitals responded with a GIF of Alex Ovechkin pulling the words HAT TRICK out of a top hat.

I love the synergy between the DC Sports Teams here.

Gibson became the first rookie to score three touchdowns on Thanksgiving since Randy Moss did so in 1998 against… yup, you guessed it, the Cowboys.

UFC Vegas 15 Preview: Anthony Smith – Devin Clark

In the co-main event of tomorrow night’s UFC Vegas 15 card, we have a light heavyweight contest which features a former title challenger. Anthony “Lionheart” Smith (33-16) will be taking on Devin “Brown Bear” Clark (12-4) in his 50th professional fight.

That number is truly astonishing considering the former UFC title challenger is only 32 years old. Nevertheless, Smith will be making the walk for the 50th time as he’s looking to bounce back after two consecutive losses in the octagon.

Clark on the other hand is looking to break into the UFC‘s top 15. The Jackson-Wink product has won back to back fights to push his overall record to 12-4. Clark has been tested in his UFC career against some of the best including Aleksandar Rakic and current champ, Jan Blachowicz.

Of course, Clark came up short in both of those fights. However, I’ve seen a lot of improvement in his last couple of outings. Sure, the competition level wasn’t extremely high, but he seems to be heading in the right direction.

Smith on the other hand is heading in the wrong direction. Two consecutive losses for Smith have had him contemplating his UFC career. Smith looked fantastic in the first couple of rounds against Glover Teixiera. However, since then, he’s been dominated in seven rounds since.

UFC Vegas 15 Preview

When thinking about the UFC Vegas 15 co-main event, this should be a win for Anthony Smith. However, the key word in that sentence is that it should be Anthony Smith. I really think Smith has a very solid overall game.

We’ve seen him look good on the feet and he’s shown off good submission skills in the UFC. However, he just looked completely out of it in his last fight against Aleksandar Rakic. Sure, he was hurt with leg kicks, but mentally he looked checked out.

Tomorrow night will all come down to which Anthony Smith we get. Devin Clark is going to push forward and try to take Smith down. We’ve seen Smith fold to the point where he accepts getting taken down then shows no urgency to get back up.

If that happens tomorrow night, we are going to see Clark pickup another decision win. However, if we see some urgency out of Smith, I think he can score enough points on the feet and win some scrambles to get the decision.

I think that this fight is going to go the distance. Again, UFC Vegas 15 will come down to which Anthony Smith we get. I think he’s going to show just enough urgency to squeak out an extremely narrow split decision, but I’m not confident in that pick.

New York Giants: 3 players on defense who have surprised in 2020

New York Giants, Blake Martinez, James Bradberry

The New York Giants are entering their bye week with back to back wins against division opponents. The Giants are sitting at a 3-7 record, that might not sound the best, but the Giants are just a half-game back from first place in the division. In the last few weeks, the Giants have made some drastic improvements.

There is a lot to like about the Giants this season. The coaching for the G-MEN has been impressive, to say the least. We can give all the credit to the coaches, the players are going on the field and playing every week.

Three New York Giants players who have played above their weight-class:

James Bradberry

James Bradberry has been a solid cornerback throughout his career but would not consider him elite until his first season with the New York Giants.

With his first season with the Giants, Bradberry just isn’t one of the best cornerbacks in the NFC East, he is one of the best cornerbacks in the entire NFL. Through 10 weeks, Bradberry leads the NFL with 14 passes defended and three interceptions.

Dave Gettleman was the former general manager of the Carolina Panthers. Gettleman drafted Bradberry back in 2016 in the second round. Once Bradberry hit free agency this past offseason, Gettleman jumped all over him. Bradberry received a three-year deal, worth $ 43.5 million. What a massive signing by Gettleman this past offseason.

Blake Martinez

Blake Martinez was a tackling machine in Green Bay for years but never brought much else to the table. The Packers couldn’t have been more wrong.

Martinez is tied for the most tackles in the NFL through 10 weeks, but he has done much more for the Giants than that. Martinez has provided a rock in the middle of the defense and being the vocal leader of this Giants’ defense. This is what the Giants needed on the defensive side of the ball.

Dave Gettleman again made another great signing this past offseason. Gettleman signed Martinez to a three-year deal, just like he did to Bradberry. Martinez’s deal is worth $ 30 million over three-years. This Giants defense has found their leader for years to come.

Leonard Williams

Leonard Williams was a Pro Bowler his rookie season in the NFL but after that season never played up to his expectations. Why would Dave Gettleman give up a third-round and fifth-round pick for an average defensive lineman?

Williams was the final piece to the puzzle for this Giants defensive line. The Giants now have Williams, Dexter Lawerance, and Dalvin Tomlinson are the starters, with B.J. Hill getting solid playing time coming off the bench.

The Giants were not able to sign Williams to a long-term extension and were forced to give him the franchise tag. Williams’ franchise tag is worth $ 16.1 million.

Whatever your feelings about the trade for Williams, you can not deny that he has been one of the best players on this entire Giants team. Williams is playing as he did back in his rookie season. He is finally becoming that all-around playmaker Gettleman traded for in 2019. Williams currently is leading the Giants in sacks with five, tackles for loss with eight, and quarterback hits with 17.

Report: Joel Ward expected to be named assistant coach of the Henderson Silver Knights

Joel Ward officially ended his playing career April, but he’s already returning back to the sport in an official capacity. This time as a coach.

The Hockey News’ Ken Campbell is reporting that Ward is expected to be named an assistant coach with the Henderson Silver Knights, the AHL affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights, later this week. The story is entitled Can Brett Peterson and Joel Ward become first Black GM and head coach in NHL history?

Ward will join Manny Viveiros, who was hired as the team’s first head coach in August, behind the bench. According to the AHL, Viveiros has 13 years of coaching experience, including stints as a head coach with the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs (2019-20), an assistant with the Edmonton Oilers (2018-19), and two years as a general manager and head coach with the WHL’s Swift Current, where he won league Coach of the Year honors in 2017-18 while capturing the WHL championship.

The undrafted Ward was a hardworking player and an affable teammate, playing 726 NHL games with the Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Washington Capitals, and San Jose Sharks. Nicknamed The Big Cheese, Ward always stepped up in the playoffs and scored one of the biggest playoff goals in Capitals history, a rare Game Seven overtime series winner against the Boston Bruins in 2012.

“Hockey is a beautiful game, and it works in mysterious ways,” Ward wrote in the Players’ Tribune. “Some players, they end on a perfect high, some have it taken from them. But me, I kind of thought it was fitting that I went out the way I came in — without anybody really noticing.”

Since ending his career, Ward has tried to make the sport he loves most a more welcoming place for others. Wardo was among seven current and former Black NHL players to form the Hockey Diversity Alliance. The mission of the group is to “eradicate racism and intolerance in hockey” and “be a force for positive change not only within our game of hockey but also within society.”

In February, Ward returned to DC to host a street hockey clinic for kids, including many from the Fort Dupont Cannons. The next day, Ward dropped the ceremonial first puck before the Penguins/Capitals game while wearing a Black Girl Hockey Club hoodie.
