New York Yankees currently sitting on postseason bubble with four weeks left

New York Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton

So far, the 2020 MLB season has not been a memorable one for the New York Yankees. They’ve dealt with an absurd number of injuries, with DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, Tommy Kahnle, and now Gio Urshela spending time on the IL.

When players have gone down in previous years, the team has always had the “next man up” mentality. However, that isn’t working in 2020 as the Yankees have lost 11 of their last 16 games.

Right now, they are tied for second in the AL East with the Toronto Blue Jays and are on the postseason bubble. This season, the top two teams in each division get into the postseason, as well as the top two teams that are in third place or worse in each league.

If the postseason were to begin today, the Yankees would either have the sixth or eighth seed in the AL, dependent on tiebreakers. If they won the tiebreaker, they would be sixth but eighth if they lost it. The team still has 10 games left to play against the Blue Jays.

Right now, it’s the Minnesota Twins that would have the seventh seed in the AL. They are in third place, but just a half a game back of the White Sox along with the Indians in the central division.

Oakland leads the west, with the Astros two games back of them. In third place is the Mariners, seven and a half games back with postseason aspirations running low.

Right now, the Yankees need to turn things around if they want to make a run this year. If any other team passes the Yankees in the American League except for the Blue Jays, the team will fall out of the postseason picture.

Thatcher Demko’s 48-save shutout to force Game 7 was a very rare thing in NHL history

Thatcher Demko’s 48-save shutout to force Game 7 was a very rare thing in NHL history

Over the last few days, Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko has become a household name and stamped his name into the NHL history books. Coming in relief of an injured Jacob Markström, Demko won Games Five and Six, stopping 90 of 91 shots. That includes a 48-save shutout in Game Six, which forced a Game Seven against a red-hot, first-seeded Vegas Golden Knights.

The 24-year-old’s career was pedestrian before. During parts of three regular seasons, Demko posted a 3.02 GAA in 37 career games. Now, he can say he did something that Hockey Hall of Famer Jacques Plante accomplished 67 years ago.

Here are some amazing stats compiled by TSN, ESPN, Sportsnet, and the NHL that put into perspective just how amazing Demko’s two games of near hockey goalie perfection was.

For maximum effect, please play Timothy Thatcher’s WWE theme while reading NHL Thatcher’s unbelievable stats and records.

Yeah, um, that’s pretty good.

Now Demko has the chance to become a god if he can win Game Seven. It should be a good one.

#GetYourBellyOut Ostomy Factory Tour!

#GetYourBellyOut Ostomy Factory Tour!

That’s right, the #GetYourBellyOut campaign gathered up a bunch of our scrumptious campaign supporters for a wicked day out at an ostomy factory!

Pelican Healthcare kindly agreed to let the #GetYourBellyOut campaign, a film crew and some of our supporters in for a behind the scenes snoop at what goes into creating ostomy bags.

There are many people worldwide who have an ostomy whether that be a Colostomy, Ileostomy or Urostomy for a number of different reasons. Patients with Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis are sometimes given the option of an ostomy if the bowel  becomes too inflamed or ulcerated because of disease (which is often the cause great pain/discomfort).
This ostomy factory tour was the perfect opportunity for us to break down the barriers and dive straight in with a behind the scenes look at the facilities and the processes involved in making ostomy bags. Who knew that there were so many different stages to ensuring that each ostomy bag is created to such a high standard.

#GetYourBellyOut has formed some wonderful friendships along the way which has allowed us to connect our campaign supporters directly with the brands and companies which they benefit from every single day.  This tour was a shining example of patients working closely with those who have dedicated their time to designing/ providing the best possible products to make life with an ostomy that little bit easier.

Not only did we have the opportunity for a good snoop around but we spent hours talking about all sorts from product feedback to ostomy accessories. As a result of the wonderful minds gathered around the table we have plenty of new ideas to implement in the near future, watch this space!

We would like to give our thanks to Pelican Healthcare for allowing us to visit as without them we wouldn’t have added a new experience to our list! They too kindly allowed a film crew from ITV to follow the campaign for the day in aid of an awareness programme that’s due to be aired on S4C in the coming weeks.

For more information about ostomies see the Crohn’s and Colitis UK website.
